Macon R-1 Elementary School is seeking a compassionate and organized Elementary School Nurse for the 2026-2027 school year to support the health and well-being of our students.  The school nurse provides direct care, promotes health education, and ensures a safe school environment for all children.

RESPONSIBILITY: 

The school nurse will assist district administrators in providing each student the fullest opportunity to receive a quality education by minimizing absences due to illness, providing nursing care during the school day, and creating a climate of health and well-being in school.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Licensed to practice in the State of Missouri as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required
• Displays a caring and calm demeanor
• Displays effective interpersonal skills and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently
• Experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing preferred
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide first aid, emergency care, and routine health services to students and staff.
2. Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and district policy.
3. Monitor and manage chronic health conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, allergies).
4. Maintain accurate student health records and comply with state reporting requirements.
5. Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.).
6. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns.
7. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and community health providers.
8. Promote health education and wellness initiatives within the school
9. Participates as part of the health professional team in staff meetings, evaluation of students with special health care needs, and the student assistance teams, as requested. 
10. Collaborates with community resources to meet the needs of children. 
11. Assumes other duties as assigned.
